Cardio exercise just means that you get your heart rate up and keep it up for an extended period of time (vs resistance or weight training). It is best to keep your heart rate at about 65-80% of your max predicted (220-your age) for 20-30 min. It really doesn't matter how you do it along as your are doing something you love and can keep it up. Running is great, but always watch out for joint problems. Walking on an incline gives you a great cardiovascular work-out. And my favorite is dancing. I can do that for hours and I don't even notice I am tired until I stop.

Oh - and always remember to listen to your body. If you feel like you are getting short of breath or fatigued early that you usually do, talk to your doctor. And stop when you get tired and plan to push yourself a little more the next day. Don't overdo it!

The best cardio exercise is one you enjoy! If your goals are weight loss, moderate exercise is important but your nutrition will be more important.

Swimming works so many muscles and is not hard on your joints.
