You are going to laugh (and I am definitely not an expert on this matter) but I use an over the counter benzocaine ointment (numbing cream). The one I have now is called Boil Ease - but it work in decreasing itching and numbing any pain.

My bug bites hurt really bad and I have found some random home remedies to work. One is to soak a cotton ball in vinegar and hold it over the bite for a few minutes. Another is to put scotch tape over it! Don't ask me why but this seems to help even when cortisone cream does not. You can also take a Benadryl but it might make you drowsy - those things work though.

First off, even though it's tempting, don't scratch them! I've always used Calamine lotion for this, which has worked just fine.
