Dr. Debra Greene(Energy Health Specialist)answered(7/17/2012)Not true. Alcohol is a depressant regardless of brand name or how it's constituted. Alcohol is also a known carcinogen. Most people don't realize this. They don't smoke cigarettes because they cause cancer, yet they still drink even through alcohol causes cancer. Please keep the damaging health effects in mind when making beverage choices.
Dr. Ramani Durvasula(Licensed Clinical Psychologist)answered(7/26/2012)Alcohol is alcohol - whether tequila or whiskey or something you brew up at home. And it is always a central nervous system depressant - never a stimulant. However, alcohol has short term physiological AND psychological effects and one thing that can happen in the short term is that the "anticipation" of all the stuff that follows those tequila laden margaritas - flirting, fun, laughter - can make it feel like alcohol is a pick-me-up. Not true. Somehow tequila is branded as the good time liquor - tequila shots, beachy margaritas - and that could be why you make that association. But all alcohol will ultimately slow you down - and as DUI's teach us - this can be dangerous. All things in moderation - including margaritas.
