Marielaina Perrone DDS(Dentist)answered(12/16/2012)The recommended brushing time is between 2-3 minutes per session with a minimum of two brushing sessions per day. Most dentists will recommned you brush following every meal. That is not always possible but it is ideal. The electric toothbrushes with times work great fro kids as well as adults.
Lisa Johnson(Pilates Instructor, Fitness Blogger)answered(8/24/2012)Yep, two minutes ... :-) That's what it says on the side of my sonic care toothbrush. Which, btw, my hygienist knew I had switched too in between cleanings, there was less work for her to do.
Mark Burhenne, DDS(Family Dentist)answered(1/15/2013)The question you should really be asking is not how long, but which technique. I've seen patients brush for the recommended time, but end up scraping away precious tooth enamel in the process. Brush after meals and use a gentle, small, circular motion while tilting the bristles at a 45 degree angle towards the gumline. And remember that no matter how long you brush, it doesn't replace flossing. Be sure to floss at least once a day.

Staceyanswered(5/11/2012)I think a couple minutes is sufficient. And I don't use one, but I've heard there are electric toothbrushes with timers.

mrssanswered(5/23/2012)I believe two minutes is the recommended amount (my sister was a dental nurse), however I recently bought timed toothbrushes for my children and the timer was set to one minute. I think that's too low!
