Dr. Debra Price, MD (Dermatologist) answered

Everyone loses hair each day. In fact, it's normal to lose up to 100 hairs per day.

But when people experience increased hair loss, it can sometimes be a sign of stress, illness, anemia or thyroid disease. Or, some women can actually develop a hereditary form of gradual hair thinning in the central scalp area.

If you think that your hair loss is not normal, it's probably a good idea for you to see a dermatologist for evaluation and blood work to exclude any underlying cause.
