Q:

Do I "need" eye cream? I've heard arguments for both sides. If yes, at what age is it appropriate to start?

I actually find that unless there is marked dryness under your eyes, SPF plus good sunglasses that have UV protection are really all that are necessary.  Dark circles and puffiness are now able to be addressed by new eye gels containing Peptides, which are protein chains of amino acids that have been discovered to repair all sorts of damage.  But what we're really talking about here in terms of an age when fine lines and wrinkles haven't happened yet, in other words, just prevention, the truth is use of moisturizer does not prevent aging.  It's prevention of UV damage that does. Sun protection in the form of SPF or sunglasses is really the only way to prevent the damage that leads to wrinkles.  Having said that, moisturizers or serums with broad-spectrum multi-vitamin antioxidants can be very helpful as well.  So, in my humble opinion, eye creams are not necessary for the prevention of signs of aging.

Absolutely!  The delicate skin around the eye area is 5-10 times thinner than the rest of your face so make sure to protect it.  I'd say 25 is a good age to start but it all depends on your lifestyle and genetics.  There are many eye creams, gels, serums, etc for all types of issues including dehydration, puffiness, crepiness, tired eyes, and dark circles to name a few.  It's always my recommendation to start with healthy skin care haibts at an ealry age.  Think about it, when you are older, don't you want what you are feeling on the inside to match what people see on the outside?

If you're already using daily SPF, you may be taking important steps against eye aging without realizing it! Sun damage is one of the most major culprits of dark eye circles and ashy looking skin. A nightly eye cream treatment is a smart second step. Look for ingredients containing collagen, caffeine, brighteners and polypeptides.

My dermatologist told me in your 30s is fine (though I know plenty of neurotic 20-somethings who have been eye-creaming for years!)

I suggest that you simply avoid extreme rubbing of your eyes and extreme frowning. Moreover, you need to be careful with the application as well as removing of eye make-up. These kinds of activities happen to be found in order to contribute to triggering facial lines around the eyes.
To stop dark circles around the eyes from appearing, It is suggested that you get plenty of sleep during the night. You should also have a good healthy and balanced diet because dark circles are usually caused by lack of vitamin K or inadequate antioxidants.
