Got Muscle?
Toned Bodies for Women Who Drink Milk After Strength Training
McMaster University researchers found that, over the course of a 12-week study, women who drank two large glasses of fat-free milk after their daily resistance training routine gained more muscle and lost more body fat compared to women who drank sugar-based energy drinks. Despite their muscle gain, the milk-guzzling group gained very little overall weight, because of the amount of fat that they lost.
Researchers are trying to figure out why milk has this effect, but think that it likely has to do with the combination of calcium, high quality protein and Vitamin D all found in milk.
A lot of ladies don't choose resistance training, thinking it will add bulk to their frames and give them man arms like Madonna. But that's just not the case. Frankly, the treadmill will never tighten your ass the way resistance training can, and additionally, it boosts strength, bone, muscular and metabolic health at a level straight cardio can't. And now that we see how adding milk into the mix can make strength training an even more effective way to build muscle and burn fat, we are quickly running out of excuses for avoiding the gym's weight room. Now, if we could only find a way to shoo the sweaty, stocky bald guys out of there...
